(Note: there are a couple of words not suitable for young kids on this video)

This is Jon Stewart’s closing speech from his Rally to Restore Sanity that took place in Washington, DC this past Saturday.  I have to say that I find it deeply refreshing to hear someone finally stand up and put the 24-hour news cycle in proper perspective.  I only wish more of my Christian brothers and sisters would hasten to this and realize that FOX news is not painting a picture of reality (nor are any of the other news channels).  They are in it for the money and the ratings, that’s it people.  And, when you give them more of your time and attention than you do your kids, your neighbors and your God, then I think it’s time to turn the TV off.

The country’s 24-hour, political pundit perpetual panic conflictinator did not cause our problems, but its existence makes solving them that much harder. The press can hold its magnifying glass up to our problems, bringing them into focus, illuminating issues heretofore unseen. Or they can use that magnifying glass to light ants on fire, and then perhaps host a week of shows on the dangerous, unexpected flaming ants epidemic. If we amplify everything, we hear nothing.
