Where have I been?  Why haven’t I read Andy Andrews before now?

This fact is tragic, yet I am grateful that I came to this book without expectation, it truly allowed me to become fully absorbed in its message.  What’s amazing is that some, if not most, of the truths in this book were things I have read about in other books and/or heard in messages delivered by popular speakers.  I guess that’s the way it is with wisdom though; it never grows old or goes out of fashion.  What was refreshing about this book was its ability to deliver those truths in a transcendent fashion through the power of story and the development of its characters, primarily its main character Jones.

On a personal note, this book has affected me.  In fact, writing a review feels too final because I have a sense that my thoughts about this book will more fully form and develop well beyond the time stamp that lands on this blog.  I can only hope that in some way, like Jones (Garcia & Chen) I will be able to move beyond the confines of these printed words to share some of what the Lord will teach me as the realities of life (entering crises, in crises, coming out of crises) bring me face-to-face with each of the truths found in this short yet deep book.

Thank you Andy for drawing me out of the darkness under the pier and giving me some much needed perspective.
